Overheard at dinner...

Dad: What was that? Where's the duck?

Megan: In my butt!

Overheard at dinner tonight...

Dad: Ryan, it's time to eat, come sit in your chair.

Ryan: What are we having?

Megan: Dinner.

(Yes Meg, you are correct!)

Happy Banana Birthday Meg-Goo!

This morning, all Megan wanted for her breakfast was a banana. Here's how it went down...

Megan: Mommy, I want "nana"

Mom: You can have one - would you like me to open it for you?

Megan: Uh huh

Mom: Here you go (handing the banana to Meg)

Megan: Thanks! Welcome!

She's learned that "You're Welcome" comes after Thank You" at least! :)

Happy 2nd Birthday Megs!

We'll post more later today after her birthday party. We've invited family over for a BBQ - and it looks like the weather just might cooperate for us today! YAY!

Overheard...from Meg!

I'm still sick. My whole head is stuffed up and I'm miserable. Megan was sitting on my lap this morning as I was checking email or something and I sneezed...

Megan: You got boogies Mommy?

Mom: You have no idea...

Last night, Ryan was swinging around the metal spatula that we use on the grill outside. Of course, my thoughts go to the worst case scenario...he lets go, it flies in to someone's face...and we're off to the hospital, etc. etc.

Mom: Ryan, please put the spatula back on the counter.

Ryan: (ignores me)

Mom: Ryan, I won't ask you again, please put the spatula on the counter...one....two....

Megan: (running after Ryan) one...two...three..."patula" on the "counnnnr."

Ric was on the couch and had to turn over so she wouldn't see him laughing out loud. I just covered my mouth. THAT was too funny!

Not to be outdone...

My incredibly smart daughter KNOWS her stuff!

She was asking for a DVD, which is usually one of 3 or 4 different ones: Baby Signing Time, Blues Clues, or old Pee Wee Herman Episodes.

So I asked...

Mom: Do you want Baby Time?

Megan: No, Baby Bach.

Ummm...OK, Baby Bach it is! (From Baby Einstein if you aren't up to speed with kids DVD's)

Overheard in the Living Room...

So Ryan decides to take it upon himself to take off Megan's diaper after she pooped. The problem was that it wasn't a "clean" poop, if you know what I mean. It ended up ALL over her. I got her cleaned up and sent her on her way. A few minutes later, she comes to me and says: 'Mommy, Poop!" While pointing to her leg. Now I have to find the origin of said "poop."

Mom: Megan, show me where got the poop on your leg.

Megan: Right there. (Pointing to her leg.)

What I meant was...where did you sit/slide/move to get poop smeared all over her leg! Serves me right for asking the question, she answered it perfectly! :)

Overheard again...

Mom: Megan, go get your pink sneakers so we can go to the store.

Megan: neakerths?

Mom: Yes, sneakers.

Meg: neakerths, neakerths, neakerths, neakerths, neakerths, neakerths

A Banana on the Keys?

Apparently, I'm a slave driver when it comes to practicing the piano. Megan thinks she needs to bring along a snack! :)

(No...she's really not playing, just "pounding" and singing too! You should hear her rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!")

Good Night Kisses

I was sitting on the couch. Megan was in the chair. Ryan was on the floor in front of Meg and Dad was standing. It was time for Megan to go to bed.

Dad: Megan, kisses for Ryan.

(Cutest little kiss between bro and sis...)

Dad: Kisses for Daddy

(Sweet kiss for Dad)

Dad: Kisses for Mommy

Megan: (holds her hand to her mouth) Mah! (and blows me a kiss!)

How do I rate? Hmmm....

PS - Dad did get her down from the chair and asked her to come over to kiss me - what does she do? She holds out the had she kissed and blew for me! Fresh Girl!

Polar Bear Polar Bear

I'm sitting in the office, catching up on some last minute emails before I have to go to class. All of a sudden I hear...

Ryan: Hippo, hippo, what do you hear? I hear a zebra makin' noises.

Megan: 'sat? (What's that?)

Ryan: A ZEBRA Megan! A ZEBRA!

First, it touches my heart to hear Ryan "reading" to her - and the fact that they can communicate with each other is the best!

For the first time...

...Megan cried when Ann Marie, our babysitter left today. She cried and ran to her, wanting to be picked up. Then she put her head on AM's shoulder and patted AM's back with her little hand.

I cried inside too.

She's only over here one day a week for about four hours, so it's not like I'm ditching the kids to go to work all the time! Maybe it was a one time thing - she did have a little bit of a fever and probably isn't feeling great. (At least that's what I'll keep telling myself!)

Gabby Girl

Megan has found her voice. Maybe it's a girl thing...but she LOVES to chatter all day long!

She also knows exactly what we're saying! It's fun to watch her react to things. Just a few examples...

I was sitting at the table with some Potato Salad for lunch. She comes up to me, arms raised high, making noises for some of my salad. I said, "If you want some potatoes, say 'please'". She promptly rubbed her chest (the sign language version) and said "Peeeeeeeez." How can you refuse that?

She's started to call Ryan - "Ry Ry" - we think anyway.

"Miiiiiiine" - is a favorite of hers, as well as "Noooooooo."

New things every day - it keeps things interesting!

We have a WORD!

OK...there's more words than this. (Ma Ma, Da-eee, kitty - or something like it, be be)

But THIS is a word that Megan uses with a purpose! Ready?

"Deees"

Da-Eeeeeee!

There are many days that I take a shower LATE in the day....sometimes it's because I plan to work outside, and why take a shower only to sweat again in the New England humidity?

Anyway, today was one of those days. I planned to stay off the computer all day long and work outside, which I did - all the wood is stacked! But I had to record this before I forgot - it's too good to miss! Just in case anyone is wondering, I put up the gates and plop the kids down in front of Blues Clues or whatever is on Noggin for the few minutes I'm showering...that way they are relatively safe - unless they go after each other! That Megan is starting to show some strength!)

Overheard as I was drying off...

Megan: Da-eeeeeee! (Daddy)

Ryan: No Megan, Mommy.

Megan: Da-eeeeee!

Ryan: No Megan, Daddy is at work. Mommy is in the shower!

Megan: (laughs) Da-eeeee! (Now I KNOW she was just teasing him - that's my girl!)
