Online Backup = Peace of Mind!
So, I've always preached the benefits of backing up my PC, but never really put it into practice...until now!

I've finally found a service that's PERFECT for backing up my PC because I don't have to do anything! The company is called Carbonite.com.
It's an online backup service - for ONLY $49.95 a year! (Less if you pay for more than one year at a time.)
Here's how it works...
First, you can sign up for a 15 day free trial. The first thing they do is create a FULL backup of your PC - the important files and ALL of My Documents, your Desktop, etc. For me, the entire backup took about 3 1/2 days. Yes, it takes that long because they can only encrypt and backup so many gigs a day! Once that is done, every file on my PC is marked with a little green "dot" at the bottom, showing me that it was backed up.
Now, I don't have to do anything! (Not that I did before!) It's a dynamic backup, meaning that every time I make a change, Carbonite checks for me and backs it it up! It doesn't slow my machine down because it backs up when my PC is idle.
If anything ever happens to my hard drive, etc. I just connect to Carbonite and the files are restored. Even better, I can restore to another machine if I want to. The files are backed up in two places - so if THEY have a disaster, they also have a backup! Cool huh?
In my (humble) opinion, if I lost my documents, they could be recreated - with a little pain and suffering. If I lost ANY of the pictures I've taken of my kids, I'd be devastated. Those cannot be replaced, and they are priceless to me. So, paying only $49.95 a year (not per month) is NOTHING compared to the peace of mind I now have because everything is backed up! :)

Edited to add: I have a friend who just had a hard drive crash and had to use Geek Squad to recover (almost) everything - the cost was OVER $800-$1000 to do it. A lot more than if he had been using Carbonite! Eeeeek! (Yes, he does use it now!)

If you're stilling looking to back up more than one PC, you might want to check out ElephantDrive.
The basic package is pretty similar to Carbonite's, except that it will let you store stuff that isn't even on the PC. But there Home Plus package let's you back up on up to 4 devices (PC, external drive, whatever). I had to use ElephantDrive because my house has a PC and a Mac.
