Leavin' On a Jet Plane!

In just about a week and a half - we're ALL flying to Utah to visit my family! Woo Hoo! I'm excited about being there - but not necessarily the flying part of it. (See previous post about #1 boy)

So...I'm asking (begging) all of you who have traveled lately...how do you to it?

I didn't used to be so out if it - in fact, in a previous life I traveled about 85% of the time for work. I even kept a list of all the airports I had been in! (Hmmm... I wonder if I still have that list somewhere.)

The last time we traveled, was when Ryan was only 4 months old. He was portable and controllable. Now, not so much. Also, the new restrictions for bringing liquids on board. Are they still in effect? What about juice/milk/desitin/baby tylenol/benadryl? Do we have to purchase them once we get through security (at inflated prices?)

We do have to bring BOTH carseats - should we bring a stroller to just carry all our STUFF? eeeeek!

I'll take ALL and ANY advice for this one! PLEEEEEEZE! (Before I panic! hehe)

By the way, I did pick up some toys and activities for both kids that they haven't seen yet (and won't see until we get on the plane) so they'll be fresh and new. Other than that, I'm clueless!

Hi Marni. The last time we traveled was a few months ago and it was really a challenge with a 4 and 2 yr old. New fun things helped the most, then the portable DVD player. I had to buy juice and milk after security. I bring tylenol and Benydryl but buy the little ones they give you at the doctors. Those you are allowed to have. I assume, you can bring the diaper rash as long as it is little and you can fit all the fluids etc in one gallon size bag. I always bring my 2 umbrella stollers in case we have to run. It also keeps them held in (when they throw their fits) and within view if there are limited seats. Lately, I have been taking everything in a backpack (one for Scott and one for me) so we are hands free going on and off the plane and getting through security.

The dollar store has always been my flying saving grace. Ten bucks can buy you one new and intereting thing per half hour. And you can dump it in the trash as you walk off the plane.

Second, in addition to the smaller ziploc of liquids, we have always traveled with one of the larger ziploc bags full of kid liquids. Juice, medications, diaper cream, bottles, baby food or applesauce. It's best if what you have is sealed or brand new. They have never given us a problem with that extra ziploc. We just make sure to pull it out with the rest of the liquids. I usually pack larger quantities of medications, but bring some of the smaller sizes to carry on. Boo is allergic to peanuts, so I always carry benadryl with me. They do have it now in strips like those listerine things. Be warned however, that benadryl has the opposite of the desired flying effect on our little one. Learned that the hard way!

    Good luck!

And also, I should warn you that we have flown a LOT of places with a little one, and nowhere is worse than getting through security at SLC. They probably deal with way more children than anywhere else, so they are less than accommodating. Security is always a nightmare there.
