Answers...
Many of you may know this already, but this week has been a very difficult one for us.
Wednesday afternoon, about 3:00 pm, I received a phone call from the coroner/funeral person in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania (just outside of Pittsburgh) saying that Ric's dad has been found dead in his apartment. All indications were that he died in his sleep.
It's been quite a shock to say the least. We last saw him in July, when he came out to see Megan. Other family members saw him in the middle of September at a funeral for his brother-in-law. And we spoke to him a few days after that.
We don't know exactly when he died, and we may never know. We also don't know at this point anything about his status (i.e. a will, insurance, banking, etc.) when he died. It wasn't something he shared with us, or anyone. So now, putting the grief aside, Ric is trying to piece everything together so that we can at least respectfully tie up all the loose ends.
He's planning to go to PA on Thursday for a couple of days and (hopefully) wrap most everything up that he can.

For anyone who is reading this...no matter where you are in life. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put SOMETHING together for those you may leave behind. It doesn't even have to be a formal will, or power of attorney, or anything like that. A simple list of bank accounts, insurance, pension information, or other things like that.
It's a nightmare right now as we feel like we're blindfolded trying to put a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle together. It's unfortunate, but in addition to the grief that we're feeling, there's also anger because of the "mess" that was left behind that the surviving relatives (his 3 kids and their families) have to clean up somehow.
